The Case of Bastard Father

By indiapaternityfraud

In the court of poetic justice, the Poet’s pen sitting in judgment
As the judge, the juror and the executor rolled in one
Commenced the trial of the adulterer, the bastard father –

“Let the accused be produced” announced the judge
And so was the accused brought restrained in handcuffs of truth
“May the charges be read” ordered the judge
And so they were read thus -
“He crossed the forbidden line, committed covert copulation
Planted the seeds of his sin, stabbed in the heart of tradition
Ravaged the reputations, raped the sacredness
Sabotaged trust, betrayed virtue, destroyed tranquility
Abandoned shame, murdered modesty
And finally plunged the knife of insult in the heart of unsuspecting!
Such exists no retribution that can equal
The gravity of these many a crime”

And the judge passed one glance at the accused
One glance! That one glance that stripped away
Layers of duplicity worn as impenetrable shields
That one glance that exposed the naked, shuddering soul
Shrunk to a thimble in terminal fear
On which writ in large caps, the word “GUILTY”
The judge asked no more a question
And in thundering voice pronounced – “Guilty!”

Then the judge spoke thus -
Mock you did, with deceit, the mortal society
Walk you did with your unashamed head high
Feel you did no remorse for the devastation
Make you did no remonstration for your sin!
For these, on you, I compose these sentences
For the posterity to read, recite and to impose -

May your shriveled, sunken, shivering soul
Be turned into a parchment of this judgment!
May your illegitimate ward and its progeny in perpetuity
Read the parchment and condemn your dastardly transgression!
May all your acts of kindness and of prayers
Be turned to a naught and stand canceled!
In this pen, bleeding ceaseless in retribution
Be it inscribed on your forehead these words
“The Bastard Father”, for the world to watch in wonder!
Walk you shall wearing this badge of shame!
Be it passed, by my order
To all your heirs for seven generations to come!

The Bastard Father walked away hiding his forehead
In his hand the parchment of judgment
Stooped he was with the weight of punishment
Thus ended the case and his fate
One that wrought such destruction
In return met such a reckoning
In the halls of the court of Poetic Justice!

  1. UC Says:

One of the best poems ever written. “Heart-wrenching” would be a subtle word to describe.
